Another Weekend in Norway – From Grassroots to Elite Football

Another weekend in Norway – and another chance to bring the Tanner Speed Academy methodology into very different football environments.

CEO and founder Carsten Effertz started at Store Bergan, working with an academy group from the grassroots club. The Norwegian weather delivered plenty of rain throughout the session, but the conditions didn’t stop the players from showing great energy and commitment.

From there, Carsten headed to Oslo for two Speed Days together with our partner FPN. These sessions are a great opportunity to work directly with young players and build the foundations of speed – coordination, movement quality, acceleration and change of direction.

The final stop was Strømsgodset IF, where Carsten joined the club’s coaches for a coach education session. The focus was on how speed can be developed systematically and, more importantly, how it can become an integrated part of long-term player development rather than an isolated element of training.

What made this weekend particularly valuable was the range of environments: from grassroots football, to youth speed development, to coach education at an elite professional club.

Different environments, different challenges – but the same underlying philosophy:

Speed is not simply something a player has or doesn’t have. It can be developed. And building the right foundations from an early age can make a significant difference later in a player’s career.

This is at the heart of what Tanner Speed Academy aims to do: share our methodology with players, coaches and clubs at every level and help create sustainable structures for long-term speed development.

A big thank you to Store Bergan, FPN and Strømsgodset IF for the hospitality, trust and great exchange.

Norway continues to be an important part of the Tanner Speed Academy journey – and we’re looking forward to the next chapter.
